Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)

What is Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)?

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) is a term used to describe programs and strategies that promote representation and participation of diverse groups and individuals. These sets of values each reference areas of significance for creating thriving environments in any setting.

Diversity  - all the ways that make individuals and groups unique including their race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, language, culture, national origin, religion, age, disability status, and/or political affiliation.

Equity  - the opportunities for individuals and groups to achieve their full potential with opportunities for engagement and success. This includes fair treatment, access, opportunity, and ability to advance for all people.

Inclusion  - guaranteeing an environment where all individuals are welcomed, treated fairly and respectfully, and have equal opportunities and resources to contribute fully.

Belonging - an intersection of diversity, equity, and inclusion within an organization or group that encourages individuals to be their authentic self, creates a sense of connectedness, and provides a safe space for all to be full participants.
