Evidence-Based Medicine

A guide to help you navigate the evidence-based medicine process.

Evidence-Based Medicine

Steps in Evidence-Based Medicine

There are five steps in the evidence-based medicine process, always beginning and ending with the patient.

Expanding on Acquire

As part of the acquisition process, you will gather relevant evidence.  Literature searching will be one method of doing so.  For further information on the literature searching process, along with best practices and tips check out our literature searching guide.

The steps are: Assess - Identify the problem; Ask - Determine a clear, answerable question; Acquire - Gather evidence from relevant sources; Appraise - Examine evidence for reliability and value; Apply - Determine if appropriate for clinical practice.
