The purpose of the library's digital document delivery and article request services is to provide access to materials that are unavailable in your home library collection. Library staff work with JPS team members to obtain articles from other libraries and institutions in the event that an article is not currently available in the JPS collections. This service is provided at no charge to JPS team members. Browse the FAQ below for more information.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to process requests for physical books through our current ILL system. If a physical book is needed and not available in the library's electronic collection, please consider partnering with your local public library for additional options. Public libraries are often able to fill requests for little to no charge. Visit the Fort Worth Public Library website for more information.
The purpose of interlibrary loan is to share materials intended for personal use, private study, scholarship, or research. Articles requested through interlibrary loan are not intended for group distribution. If a user makes a request and later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
An article request is a service providing a scanned copy of an article or book chapter held in the JPS Medical Library electronic collection.
Copyright guidelines for interlibrary loan limit libraries to “borrowing” five items from any single journal title per calendar year. Beyond that, publisher permission is required. However, this applies only to articles published in the past five years. Under Fair Use Guidelines, a library may copy only one article per issue in response to a request. If your request would cause these limits to be exceeded, library staff will notify you of the item's availability status and the amount of any royalty fee that will be required to obtain it.
NOTE: JPS Medical Library staff does not fill copy requests for multiple copies of items, including those needed for presentations, education sessions, or coursework.
JPS Medical Library staff provides only one electronic copy of items requested through interlibrary loan or article requests. Library staff does not provide multiple copies of requested items. This limitation applies to copies needed for use as handouts during presentations, education sessions, or coursework, etc.
As employees of UNT Health Science Center, JPS Medical Library staff will comply with all copyright laws and vendor contract agreements that may limit the use of articles available in the JPS Medical Library collection as well as those items requested through interlibrary loan. Please contact the library at MedicalLibrary@jpshealth.org with questions related to photocopying and distribution of copyrighted works.
PHOTOCOPY WARNING
NOTICE WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
The institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
